Leigh, thank you for sharing this. I had a somewhat similar experience when I was 17 and never told a soul the details until I was 39. It’s so vital to have trusted people in our lives. I strive to be that for others. No child (and really, we all are children in a sense) should carry such a burden alone.
I remember hearing about this horrible experience when we visited later that year for a holiday, I think. You are right that women always question what they did to encourage the behavior b/c it seems that it is instilled in us from a very early age, at least in my generation it was. And it was great to hear how your parents and Lauren stepped up to support you and that the university actually did something to protect you and others.
