If You Build It…They Will Come
The Peek Perspective on Rediscovering Your Passions, Just for Fun
During seemingly another lifetime, the other Dr. Peek and I were avid intramural athletes in adult coed leagues. Flag football, softball, even kickball. You name it, we loved it. (And if you don’t know our story, we began our entire relationship as marathon relay teammates long before we dated.)
But fast forward to having 3 babies in 4 years, and those babies grew and developed their own interests. So, for the past decade we’ve gotten comfortable on the sidelines, in the audience, or on the field as a coach, supporting our daughters. It’s what parents do, no big deal, right?!
But while we are obviously happy to support our kids, a part of us has been missing for a while. That competitive team spirit, that teammate dynamic, and that sideline comfort zone were long overdue for a refresh in our lives. So in January of this year, we looked at each other and decided that 2024 is the year this would need to change. We would finally get back to “us” in some sort of intramural team sport environment. We searched and crowd sourced and considered options, but we couldn’t find a team that fit us. So, we started one!
Introducing…
💎🥎The DIAMOND DUSTERS 🥎 💎
…because “We may be a little dusty, but baby we still shine!” ✨
We have linked arms with friends new and old, and some friends of friends of friends- and are finally making this thing happen.
Summer 2024, you’ll find us under the Friday night lights of our local softball field, taking on a bunch of local athletes who are probably a lot more intense than we are in this season...especially, as we live in the home of the reining NCAA softball champions, and people take things seriously around here. (Did I mention some of the games will apparently start at 10pm?! TEN O’CLOCK?! Good thing we also recruited some 20-something’s, because these old gals and guys will likely need a NAP 😂)
Stay tuned for adventures of the Diamond Dusters, est 2024. Will we emerge as the underdog league champions that no one saw coming!? Or will we lose literally every game? Will we pull some muscles along the way? And will our kids be so impressed or just show up for the concession stand snacks?
Time will tell, but I’m here for it all.
To rediscover something you used to love with people you love… and just for fun (unrelated to jobs, parenting, or even fitness goals… literally just for FUN?!) Well, that’s a win in my book.
And if you needed a nudge in your own life, here it is. That thing you used to love, just for fun?! Go do that thing. Who cares if you aren’t as “good” as you used to be. (Spoiler alert: you probably aren’t!) Don’t overthink it. And don’t wait around for someone else to invite you. If you build it, they will come.
Way out of my league (and swinging for the fences)…
Dr. Peek
(#10 on the field, but #1 in your heart)
